Empowering positive change through understanding, compassion, and collaboration.

At Health & Community Services (HCS), our behaviour support services help participants understand the causes of their behaviours, develop new skills, and build confidence to live fulfilling, meaningful lives. We use a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach — one that focuses on prevention, empowerment, and skill development rather than control or punishment.

Tailored behaviour support plans

Our Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs) are developed in close collaboration with the individual, their family, support workers, and other professionals. Each plan includes a clear understanding of the person’s strengths, triggers, and needs; strategies to reduce or eliminate restrictive practices; positive reinforcement and skill-building techniques; crisis management and safety protocols when necessary; and regular review and monitoring.

Comprehensive assessment and functional analysis

Effective behaviour support starts with understanding why a behaviour occurs. Our Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs) draw on direct observation and data collection, interviews with the participant and their support network, analysis of behavioural triggers and communication patterns, and collaboration with allied health professionals.

Collaborative intervention and skill building

We work closely with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to co-design intervention strategies that are consistent and effective across home, school, work, or community. We help participants develop emotional regulation and communication skills, strengthen social interaction and problem-solving, build resilience and self-awareness, and enhance self-confidence and decision-making.

Ongoing monitoring and holistic care

Our practitioners regularly review each plan through feedback from families and support staff, review of incident data and outcomes, and reassessment to meet updated NDIS or clinical requirements. Our team uses a trauma-informed, recovery-focused framework that emphasises dignity, self-determination, and inclusion.
