Promoting independence, participation, and purpose in everyday life.
At Health & Community Services (HCS), our occupational therapy (OT) services help individuals develop the skills, confidence, and independence they need to take part in everyday activities — at home, at work, and in the community. Our highly trained occupational therapists use evidence-based, person-centred interventions to support participants in achieving their goals.
Personalised assessment and goal setting
Our occupational therapists conduct comprehensive functional assessments to identify strengths, challenges, and personal aspirations. Assessments include functional capacity and daily living evaluations, home and environmental safety assessments, cognitive and sensory processing assessments, recommendations for assistive technology and equipment, and collaborative goal planning aligned with NDIS outcomes.
Adaptive equipment and environmental modifications
We assess how an individual’s surroundings can be adapted to improve accessibility, comfort, and safety — including recommendations for assistive technology, home and workplace modifications, training in safe equipment use, and liaising with suppliers, builders, and NDIS planners.
Skill building and rehabilitation
Whether recovering from injury, managing a chronic condition, or building capacity for greater independence, our rehabilitation programs include fine and gross motor skill training, cognitive rehabilitation and memory strategies, upper-limb therapy and functional task practice, daily living skills training, and fatigue and energy-conservation management.
Sensory integration and regulation
For participants experiencing sensory processing differences, our therapists offer sensory integration therapy to support calmness, focus, and emotional regulation — helping participants understand and manage sensory triggers, develop self-regulation strategies, and create sensory-friendly environments.
Lifestyle and worksite assessments
Meaningful occupation includes both work and leisure. Our occupational therapists conduct lifestyle, vocational, and environmental assessments to identify opportunities for greater participation across every area of life — including return-to-work and work-readiness programs, workplace ergonomic and task analysis, school-based and transition planning for young people, assessment of routines, habits, and time-use balance, and recommendations for accommodations that promote safety and success. We also collaborate with employers, educators, and other professionals to ensure participants are included, supported, and equipped to thrive.
A holistic approach to wellbeing
At HCS, occupational therapy is not delivered in isolation. Our therapists work hand-in-hand with our behaviour support practitioners, nurses, and allied health team to provide integrated, wraparound care. This multidisciplinary approach means we can address physical, psychological, and environmental factors together — supporting the whole person, not just a single aspect of their life. Our goal is to build capacity, not dependency — helping participants live safely, confidently, and independently for the long term.
